Applies to:Sun StorageTek SL500 Modular Library System - Version: Not ApplicableAll Platforms Checked for relevance on 16-Mar-2011. GoalProper code support for SL500 Robotic Module with new EV15 scanner:1235 is official SL500 code that was purposely installed in the product under an official MFG deviation in order to ship SL500 libraries to customers. 1235 is required to work with the latest Robotics Module that are being shipped. The latest Robotic Module is not compatible with 1232 and targeting errors will occur if an attempt is made to use 1232 code. There is not a difference in the two code levels from a host software (e.g. NBU) perspective. 1300 code is compatible with the new Robot Module as well as 1235 is and officially replaced the deviation in MFG for 1235 code. 1300 is downloadable from the USR code site. If needed, 1235 could be run temporarily, to give the customer time to go to 1300 code. It is not possible to use 1232 in these libraries due to the new Robotics Module. 1235 code is NOT available to be loaded by the field as it was a MFG release only. The old Robotics Modules are no longer available. Only the new Robotics Modules are being made for use in new product and as spares. SolutionSteps to FollowExplanation of scanner versions and firmware that should be used: The problem with the new EV15 scanner will show up when the Rev. 4 Robot is installed in a older library running 1232 firmware and lower. The Library intermittently fails to correctly read drive targets, notably the Top Slot of the DEMs. This problem is causing the Rev. 4 robots to be incorrectly diagnosed as faulty when they simply require the correct level of firmware. This change can be identified as: 419946801 Rev4 (hardware label on robot) has the new EV15 Scanner. 419684601 Rev3 (hardware label on robot) has the original E1022 Scanner. The Rev. 3 Robot at 419684601is RoHS compliant and will run at all code levels including the latest 1300 firmware. The Rev. 4 Robot 419946801(RoHS) must use 1300 Firmware or the factory installed 1235 code should be used. DO NOT downlevel to 1232 or lower code levels !! All new SL500s coming out of Guadalajara and Budapest manufacturing will come with a robot equipped with an EV15 scanner, 419946801 Rev. 4, and will be running 1235 or 1300 firmware or higher firmware. All spare RLC cards will also come with 1235 or 1300 firmware or higher firmware. Older units with Rev. 3 Robots with E1022 scanner will still work with the new 1235 and 1300 level microcodes.
