PreviouslyPublishedAs 230739 Description Sun Fire[TM] 4800 and Sun Fire[TM] 6800 midrange servers can have either original version 1 system controllers, or the newer System Controller v2 (SCv2). E4900 and E6900 models come standard with SCv2. Here is how to tell them apart. Steps to Follow SCv1 is the original system controller used on Sun Fire[TM} 3800, 4800, 4810, and 6800 midrange servers. The 4800 and 6800 have 540-6083 a optional memory enhanced system controller commonly referred to as SCv2. Amazon E4800 and E6900 servers come standard with SCv2. Externally, the two types of system controllers look alike, except for their part number tag. SCv1 is 501-5407, System Controller Board SCv2 is available as upgrade option X2763A for use in Sun Fire 4800 and Sun Fire 6800. SCv2 should not be confused with the Sun Fire 3800 system controller, Sun[TM] Part number 501-5563. The 501-5563 was equivalent in capability to what we now call the SCv1, but was physically a bit longer in order to fit in a Sun Fire 3800. 501-5563 is also known as the SP SC. The 3800 was discontinued before SCv2 was introduced. SCv2 was supported with the 5.16.0 firmware release for SunFire[TM] and Amazon midrange servers but for E4900 and E6900 the enhanced error logging feature requires firmware 5.17.0.. You can identify an SCv2 with the platform shell showsc or sbowboards commands: sc0:SC> showsc SC: SSC0 Main System Controller V2 ... sc0:SC> showboards -v Slot Pwr Component Type State Status Domain ---- --- -------------- ----- ------ ------ SSC0 On System Controller V2 Main Passed - SSC1 On Present Spare - - ... A slave SCv2 will appear as: sc1:sc> showsc SC: SSC1 Spare System Controller V2 ... An SCv1 looks like: sc0:SC> showsc SC: SSC0 Main System Controller sc0:SC> showb Slot Pwr Component Type State Status Domain ---- --- -------------- ----- ------ ------ SSC0 On System Controller Main Passed - SSC1 On Present Spare - - ... A slave SCv1 will appear as: sc1:sc> showsc SC: SSC1 Spare System Controller ... The showsc and showb output for an SCv2 is the same for Sun Fire and Amazon Product Sun Fire 6800 Server Sun Fire 4800 Server Sun Fire E6900 Server Sun Fire E4900 Server scv2, scv1, system controller Previously Published As 76828 Change History Date: 2006-01-23 User Name: 71396 Action: Update Canceled Comment: *** Restored Published Content *** from ssh audit update Version: 0 Date: 2006-01-23 User Name: 71396 Action: Update Started Comment: updating per ssh audit Version: 0 Attachments This solution has no attachment |
