Goal

Description:

There are  a total of 32 bytes reserved  for both password and controller name for 
the Storage 3310, 3320, 3510 and 3511 Arrays.

Solution

Steps to Follow:

When setting a password for the SE3310/SE3320/SE3510/SE3511 Arrays,
it is important to understand that the combined reserved area for
both the controller name  and the password is 32 characters.

The password and controller name share a 32-character space.
Because the minimum length of the controller name is 1
(when the controller name is empty), the maximum length for the
controller password is 31. When the controller password occupies
31 characters, there is only one character left for the controller name,
and vice versa.

In earlier versions of the CLI interface, sccli software, 1.6.2 and
below, this combined value was 16 bytes in length. The change in
size to 32 characters combined was effective with version 2.0 and
above of the sccli software.

The password can be set in both the telnet interface and the CLI interface,
sccli.

If you exceed this size, the error you will see using the sccli is the
following:

controller current acceptable max length of password: X
sccli> get/set operation: error: failed to check/set_password

Where X is 32 characters minus the length of the controller name.

For example:
sccli> show controller-name
controller-name: "minnowfc"

sccli> set password a_value_that_exceeds_the_maximum
controller current acceptable max length of password: 24
sccli> get/set operation: error: failed to check/set_password


Thus, X= 32 - controller-name = 24 characters maximum.


To remove an existing password, specify a zero-length string with a pair of double-quote characters. For example:

sccli> set password ""
