Spanning tree is enabled by default on the Sun Fire[TM] B1600 Blade systems
chassis switch. This document describes how to disable it.

The bridge priority on the Sun Fire B1600 Blade systems chassis switch,
is, by default, 32768.

Bridge priority is used by the Spanning Tree Algorithm(STA) to select
root device, root port and designated port, so, if a Sun Fire[TM] B1600
Blade Systems chassis is being installed into an existing network, which
has spanning tree enabled, this may(or may not) cause routing problems.

If the "new" Sun Fire B1600 Blade systems chassis switch's priority, is
higher than existing network nodes' priority(lower numerical value =
higher priority), it can advertise itself as the root bridge, possibly
disrupting user traffic.

If two devices have the same priority, the one with the lower MAC
address becomes the root device. So, be aware that unexpected results
may occur.

The following is an example session of turning off spanning tree -

"Telnet to the system used to access the Sun Fire B1600 controller, or if the
switch has already been assigned an IP address, you can telnet to that IP."
