Goal

This document describes how to change the domain name on the Sun
Enterprise[TM] 10000 Server.

Solution

If you are running SSP 3.3 software, and later, perform the following steps in this document's procedure:
1, 2, 3, 7, 8, 9, 10

If you are running SSP 3.2 software, and lower, perform the following steps in this document's procedure:
1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10

Note: SSP 3.11,3.1,3.0 ssp_backup and ssp_restore are not supported.

Steps
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1) Run an ssp_backup of the main SSP software. This command creates the SSP configuration backup cpio for recovery purposes, if needed.

2) Run sys-unconfig on the domain, or domains, and bring it to the ok prompt.

3) On the main SSP for SSP 3.3 software, and later, run:
ssp% domain_rename -d <domain_name> -n <new_domain_name>

NOTE: Your attempt fails if the target domain is already running the operating system.
You can use the domain_rename command to change the operating system (OS) level of a domain as well:
ssp% domain_rename -d <domain_name> -o <sunos_level>

The domain_rename -o option can be used with the -n option:
ssp% domain_rename -d <old_name> -n <new_name> -o <sunos_level>

4) On the main SSP for SSP 3.2 software, and below run:
ssp% domain_remove -d <domain name>

When you are prompted as to whether or not you want to delete the files, make sure to retain the files.

5) In the /var/opt/SUNWssp/.ssp_private/domain_history file, run:
ssp% mv <old_domain_name> <new_domain_name>

6) In the /var/opt/SUNWssp/.ssp_private/eeprom_save directory, run:
ssp% mv <eeprom.image.old_domain_name> <eeprom.image.new_domain_name>

7) On the main SSP, run:
ssp% domain_create <new_domain_name>

8) Bring up the domain and answer the resulting questions.

9) On the main SSP for SSP 3.2, and later, run:
ssp% ssp_backup <directory_name>

Note: You can use ssp_restore to maintain the same environment on the main SSP and spare SSP by backing up the main SSP with ssp_backup(1M) and restoring the archive file on the spare SSP with ssp_restore. For SSP 3.4, and later, this step and step 10 can be accomplished by running the following on the main SSP:
ssp% setdatasync backup

10) On the spare SSP for SSP 3.2 and above, FTP the ssp_backup file from the main SSP and run:
ssp% ssp_restore <filename>
