Solution Type Technical Instruction Sure Solution 1017719.1 : Sun StorEdge[TM] 351x/33x0: Telnet session problems with 3.2x Controller Firmware
PreviouslyPublishedAs 228928 Description Summary The telnet session may hang after a short period of time, when connected to a Sun StorEdge[TM] 3510 FC, 3511[TM] SATA, and 33x0 SCSI arrays on a private network running 3.2x Controller Firmware. Steps to Follow The Ethernet connection is sensitive to voltage drops, noise potentials, inductive transients and electromagnetic interference. 1. It is therefore highly recommended to use CAT5 (or better) cable from the Minnows to switches or administration hosts. It is also important to use short cables and stay within the limits for cable length. 2. Use a switch port capable of full-duplex operation for the most reliable operation. 3. Switch ports should be configured for auto-negotiation. 4. Ensure the array is upgraded to Controller Firmware 4.x. DH confirmed 3150 link negotiation problem with Cisco switches with cables 50 meters or longer. it is doing testing and signal analysis. It seems the the 4.0 based code is a lot more robust in this respect than 3.25 and 3.27. There may be a problem in the Ethernet driver handling link negotiation. it is not clear if FW4.0 alone can fix the bug completely. For more information see Bug ID: 5034422.
