It is Oracle's position that the fire system vendors have the full responsibility to determine the success or failure of their tests and the ultimate design and installation of the fire suppression equipment.
- Oracle is not a provider of fire protection services and has no plans to do so in the future.

- Oracle does not have the expertise to do fire protection system testing and thus Sun will
not test or certify any of them.

- Oracle can work with the fire protection companies, customers, and local fire marshals, by
providing physical, mechanical, and electrical information about our products.

- Because of the different types of fire protection systems (C02, etc.) and different fire laws and
different conditions at each customer site, it is impossible to provide general advice on what will happen if a fire protection system is discharged, nor does Sun Microsystem's take on the liability of such advice.

- Oracle's products are designed for the easy attachment of fire protection systems.

- In summary, it is each fire protection company's responsibility and liability to test and install their
systems into our products.

Oracle works with two manufacturers of fire suppression equipment.  We offer both FM200 and Inergen gases.  Our systems have been designed, tested, and installed in many facilities.  Our designs are suitable for a base model up to 5 expansion cabinets or clustered SL8500s.  The fire suppression unit is a self-contained design.  The system is standardized at the SL8500, but customized for your data center (i.e. panel placements, building tie-ins, multiple unit sharing, etc).  Our fire suppression designs utilize our circuitry IP which will shut down the library and drives without the use of a shunt trip switch. The design also maximizes our knowledge of the internal mechanics to ensure nozzles and samplers do not impede library function causing hardware malfunction.  Our designs were created using NFPA2001 guidelines for enclosures.

There are significant variables in pricing a fire suppression system. Installation is done by local distributors and labor rates around the country vary.  Other factors can include seismic bracing, tank distances, slab ceilings, hurricane walls, expansion cabinets, additional sirens, etc. so it is important that we perform a site survey prior to quoting a firm price .

Fire suppression can be a lengthy process so it is important to understand the potential project duration up front. The typical base model project runs something like this:

- Design and drawing phase = approx 5 weeks.
- Manufacture and delivery of equipment = approx 5 weeks.
- Submission and approval of drawings = variable - county/city officials must approve and Oracle has no control over this phase.
- Installation of equipment = 1 week (typically the unit will need to be powered down for a maximum of 4 hours during this time).
- Test of equipment = 1 day.
- Approval of installation = variable - county/city officials must approve and Oracle has no control over this phase.

Please note that the SL8500 typically needs to be powered down for approximately 4 hours during the installation phase. Many customers retrofit their units so we're accustomed to working this portion in during regular maintenance windows if your unit is already in production.

If a customer would like us to work up a quote for a fire suppression system, we will need a few things:

- What type of room fire suppression do they have now? If gas, what type?
- Do they have a preference on the type of gas to be installed?
- How many units will require fire suppression? How many expansion cabinets? Do they intend to expand in the near future?
- What is their time frame for purchase, if a new system is being purchased?
- What is driving this purchase? If risk management or insurance company will they go live (into production) prior to installation or are they dependent upon FS installation?
- Physical location of facility and suggested dates for a site survey.

Oracle has worked with Ansul and Fenwal to develop designs not only for the SL8500 but also the SL3000.  The systems have been tested by the respective manufacturers in Oracle's lab and data is available from the manufacturers in support of the designs.   The designs were standardized at the unit for consistency; customization is involved from everything not directly attached to the unit and it's circuitry.  Our SOWs are consistent with Oracle's position on warranty of the design and fire suppression hardware, but use of fire suppression manufacturers/distributors/vendors through our program IS recommended/preferred by Oracle.
