GoalInstructions to Check and Adjust CAP Assembly for Intermittent Locking Problems.SolutionBack Ground:Multiple sites have reported intermittent Cap locking problems on the SL8500. Some of the issues have been addressed by checking and adjusting the cap per the procedures stated below. If the CAP does not open or close completely it may be necessary to add shims behind the top and bottom mounting brackets. To determine if the Cap is opening and closing completely- Procedure:
Note: Do not add shims unless required. The second generation of cap brackets released set the Cap assembly at .060 as referenced to the front door by default without any shims and are less likely to need shims added. If shims are required they must be installed concurrently in the top and bottom brackets.
Note: The CAP rotating open is sometime characterized by a slight hesitation as it is moving to the open position and is not necessarily an indication of an error.

To check/adjust the CAP with 0.020 shims PN: 3148106xx:
** If no drag is felt loosen the top and bottom CAP bracket mounting screws and remove one Cap shim from the top and bottom bracket simultaneously. ** If excessive drag is detected loosen the top and bottom CAP bracket mounting screws and add one shim behind the top and bottom brackets simultaneously. ** Repeat this procedure until only a small amount of drag is felt against the Cap as it rotates from open to close. When the cap is rotated completely to the closed position it will need to be manually unlocked as stated above. Note: When reinstalling the Cap Motor assembly the cap should not be in the closed/locked position. If the Cap Motor assembly is installed with the rotating cylinder in the closed/locked position the micro switch on the Cap Motor mounting plate can be damaged. ** Recommend using another piece of tape to keep the Cap in the open position until the Cap Motor assembly is reinstalled.
