Goal

This article troubleshoots the FC connectivity issues of L-Series libraries in a HP environment.

Solution

Steps to Follow
The following is the process for troubleshooting the FC connectivity of L-Series libraries in HP environment:

1. Set the HARD ALPA on the library, must be unique ALPA in the SAN.

2. If the library is connected to a switch look at the Node List View on the switch if you can see the library.
If you can not see the library in the list, check if the HP and L700 FC cards are in the same zone.

3. Run ioscan -fn and identify the HP HBA in the example below it is /dev/fcms0:

fc 0 8/4 fcT1 CLAIMED INTERFACE HP Fibre Channel Mass Storage Adapter
lan 0 8/4.5 fcT1_cntl CLAIMED INTERFACE HP Fibre Channel Mass Storage Cntl

/dev/fcms0

4. Run fcmsutil /dev/fcms0 => Node/Port WWName, Topology

5. Ensure schgr driver is loaded:

# lsdev -d schgr
Character Block Driver Class
231 29 schgr autoch

6. Run ioscan fn and find the device name of the library:

Class I H/W Path Driver S/W State H/W Type Description
fc 0 8/4 fcT1 CLAIMED INTERFACE HP Fibre Channel Mass Storage Adapter
lan 0 8/4.5 fcT1_cntl CLAIMED INTERFACE HP Fibre Channel Mass Storage Cntl
/dev/fcms0
fcp 0 8/4.8 fcp CLAIMED INTERFACE FCP Protocol Adapter
ext_bus 8 8/4.8.0.255.2 fcpdev CLAIMED INTERFACE FCP Device Interface
target 0 8/4.8.0.255.2.12 tgt CLAIMED DEVICE
autoch 0 8/4.8.0.255.2.12.0 schgr CLAIMED DEVICE STK L180
/dev/rac/c8t12d0

7. The next command will produce a list of volumes in the library:
# mc -p /dev/rac/c8t12d0 -r S
