Solution Type Technical Instruction Sure Solution 1014558.1 : VSM - What does the term "Paired RTD's" mean?
PreviouslyPublishedAs 221501
Applies to:Sun StorageTek VSM System - Version: 4 to 5C - Release: 4.0 to 5.0All Platforms GoalWhat does the term Paired RTD's mean in the VSM solution?SolutionPaired means that two RTDs (Real Tape Drives) share the same CIP (Channel Interface Processor) or FIP (FICON Interface Processor). The two RTDs are installed on consecutive odd/even channel interfaces. This is only possible on the ICE3 or the VCF card found in the VSM4 and VSM5 product. The VTSS microcode can only operate one of the RTDs at any one point in time. VTCS manages scheduling work to the RTDs to minimize the times that both RTDs are in use but sometimes that is not possible.
