In the 'orientlabel' command, there is the option of Example: 'orientlabel host left8' SolutionSteps to FollowOracle/STK has released an "8 character barcode recognition option," (Similar to that used by companies like ADIC), beginning with code release 1022 on the SL500. With this feature, we will send all 8 standard Oracle/STK Bar code characters (6 character + 2 Media Domain and Type) to the bus - - Note -- With 1022 code, the mode can be set to see up to 12 characters. * BUT this mode (all characters) comes at a cost - you will lose the ability to control tape loads in a mixed media situation. if you turn on the mode to accept all up to 12 characters. * Where this could become an issue is in Post Sales operation - if a customer (for example) brought in media and had the CSE turn on option "all" mode and had a mixed media SL500 library, we could get un-happy calls if the customer does not know that they assume responsibility for controlling the media. And drive compatibility, the poor person now has to tell them this after the fact may get lynched by the customer if the account team has not mentioned this before.
(We have seen customers with 8 characters and no media domain and type barcodes from HP sites and some in Europe/Asia).
- From Oracle/STK Engineering. It is our understanding that the "ADIC label" is the same physical LTO label we use, based on a sample provided to engineering from another account.
** There is a mode that can be set in 1022 code that takes all physical characters (up to 11 or 12 characters) on the label and places them in the VOLID field and assumes that the right two characters are NOT media domain and type information.
The CLI commands involved and the help text are: orientlabel Set the host 'orient label' parameter. This option causes the barcode label on the tape cartridge to be presented to the host interface as fewer or more characters, selected from the left or right pf the physical label. The orientation setting of 'all' will present the entire label. When the "all" setting is in effect, it is assumed there is no domain and type fields and none are returned or checked for compatibility. The orientation setting of 'left' will start using barcode characters from the left and proceeding the number specified. A right orientation setting will use a number of characters specified starting from the right. Example: Physical barcode of 'ABCDEFGH', setting left7 shows 'ABCDEFG'; setting "all" shows 'ABCDEFGH'; setting right6 shows: 'CDEFGH'. Default is left6. "orientlabel print" Shows current setting of the orient label parameter. @ SL500, New, feature, added, SL500, library, code, Bar, code, label, Customer, requests, ability, read, all, characters, Volser, label, including, media, type, character, 6+2, character, 8, character, Volser, label, 12, character Previously Published As STKKB66773 Attachments This solution has no attachment |
