Goal

3.13.01 Code Supports 8 Characters in the SCSI VOLID Field.

Solution

Steps to Follow
Product Enhancements

1. Added support for 8 character SDLT labels with media domain/types of S1, S2, S3, S4.

* Note - Library Engineering verified with code writer - that this is full support for all drives attached to the L180/700/1400 series, not just SDLT.

2. Added new CLI label-option command to support sending all characters read in the VOLID label in the SCSI VOLID field, and be able to specify if the media domain/type characters should be a prefix or suffix to the VOLID.

The new command syntax is:

  • label-option view - just views the current setting .
  • label-option off turns off 8 character reporting .
  • label-option before puts the media domain and type characters before the 6 volser characters for SCSI ( this is the Unisys config ).
  • label-option after puts the media domain and type characters after the 6 volser characters for SCSI .

As of 3.13.01 the L700/180 can report 6 or 8 characters in the SCSI VOLID field, not 7, 9, or up to 12.

If the physical label has 123456 L1 (where 123456 is the VOLID and L1 is the media domain and type characters).

Then "label-option off" places 123456 in the SCSVI VOLID field.

Then "label-option before" places L1123456 in the SCSVI VOLID field.

Then "label-option after" places 123456L1 in the SCSVI VOLID field.

VOLID, With release of code 3.13.01 the L180/700/1400 series can report 6 or 8 characters in the SCSI VOLID field., L1400, L700, L180, Barcode labels, Support, 8 character support for volser labels, Code 3.13.01, Volser, audited, 8 Character
