Solution Type Technical Instruction Sure Solution 1012813.1 : Verifying Sun StorageTek[TM] NAS Replication Network Configuration
PreviouslyPublishedAs 217593 Description A dedicated, fully-functional network connection is required between the NAS File Replication master (source) NAS server and the target (mirror) NAS server. Any operational issues with the 'mirror network' will directly affect the functioning of the mirror process. Steps to Follow Verifying Sun StorageTek[TM] NAS Replication Network Configuration 1. The NIC interface(s) used in replication on both the master (source) and mirror (target) NAS systems must be designated as MIRROR SE5310 StorEdge 5310C NAS Server Name & Network Address Server Name SE5310 Gateway 123.45.67.1 Interface emc1 emc2 Description Intel Gigabit Copper Intel Gigabit Copper IO/IRQ/MEM 3070/9 3071/9 H/W Address 00:0e:0c:12:34:56 00:0e:0c:12:34:57 Pkts In/Out 23315501/6392959 8938730/376515 Errs In/Out/Col 0/0/0 0/0/0 MTU Cfg/Act/Max 1500 /1500/1500 1500 /1500/1500 Transceiver automatic or preset automatic or preset IP Address 123.45.67.89 10.10.0.1 IP Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0 255.255.255.0 IP Broadcast 123.45.67.255 10.10.0.255 IP Alias Info Role primary up mirror up ^^^^^^ NOTE: It is strongly recommended that the NICs used for NAS replication be configured on a private network. 2. Check for network connectivity between the master and target NAS systems - Attempt to contact local 'mirroring' network I/F (ie. mirror interface of master system); SE5310 > ping <IP-ADDRESS_of_LOCAL_INTERFACE> -Attempt to contact remote 'mirroring' network I/F (ie. mirror interface of target system) SE5310 > ping <IP-ADDRESS_of_REMOTE_INTERFACE> If the local ping fails, check for mis-configuration of network settings and/or investigate hardware failure of local NIC. If the remote ping fails, check interconnect cabling. (Also, perform 'local NIC ping' on the remote (target) system to check remote NIC hardware) If both of the above commands are successful, the mirror network is functional. 3. Check that NIC speed and Duplex setting is correct and that the link is UP SE5310 > em show all emc1: 100Mb/s FULL-DUPLEX, Link is UP emc2: 100Mb/s FULL-DUPLEX, Link is UP Product Sun StorageTek 5320 NAS Gateway/Cluster System Sun StorageTek 5310 NAS Gateway/Cluster System Sun StorageTek 5310 NAS Gateway System Sun StorageTek 5320 NAS Appliance Sun StorageTek 5310 NAS Appliance Sun StorageTek 5210 NAS Appliance Internal Comments This document contains normalized content and is managed by the the Domain Lead(s) of the respective domains.
