Description
This document identifies the four(4) different passwords associated with the Sun StorEdge[TM] Sun StorageTek, and Sun Storage[TM] RAID Arrays. It is important for anyone attempting to install or troubleshoot this product, to understand each of their functions.

Steps to Follow
Passwords associated with the array

There are 4 basic passwords associated with the arrays.

1. Local Array password
2. Management Login password
3. Service Interface Main Menu(06.16.81.xx or later firmware)
4. Debug/Engineering password

This document will discuss the usefulness of these different passwords

Local Array password

This password controls the ability of the Management Host to alter the configuration of the Sun StorEdge [TM] 6130 and Sun StorageTek 6140,6540, 25XX [TM] arrays. It comes blank from the factory and is stored in two locations. One copy on the Array itself in the DACstore(private) region, and the other is encrypted on the Management Host.

either in
/opt/SUNWstade/DATA/rasagent.conf when old Configuration Services management software is used

or in
/var/opt/SUNWsefms/store/Devices/devicesx ;When Common Array Management software is used

Note: Upgrade to CAM User Interface is highly recommended for systems still using Configuration Services

Each Array and installed Management Host must agree on this password in order for the Management Hosts to make configuration changes on the Array. Changing this password can be done via the administration tab for configuration Services or with "manage password" button in the General configuration tab for CAM in the GUI, or using sscs modify in the CLI.

Two possibilities :
First; create, modify, or delete the password in the DACStore of the array and in the CAM User Interface database
Second: Synchronize the CAM User Interface registration database for any other management hosts, with the registered password of the array done in the first step.

Note:  <Document: 1011201.1> fully describes the way to do the above possibilities

If The old Configuration Services User Interface is used, and if this password is set, you must also update it on the StorADE side as well. Failure to do so will prevent collection
of the 6130SupportData script. It can be set by selecting:

StorADE -> Inventory -> the Array in question -> "Update Monitoring and Setup
Information" from the Actions pulldown menu.

The password entered into the pop-up window must match the password from the
Configuration Service side.

Note: Before removing an Array from a Management Host's control, be sure to know
the Local Array password so that it can be applied to the next Management Host.
Failure to do this will result in an Array that cannot be reconfigured and will
require an on-site support visit to correct.

Management Login password

This password guards against unauthorized access to the GUI and CLI. After the
initial installation of the Management Software bundle, the only login password
combination that will work is the root user password for that Management Host.
Additional users can be added provided that that user is also able to access the
Management Host via normal unix methods. Additional users must also be assigned
a role (storage or guest) depending on the access level being granted (storage
is full access, guest is view-only).

Service Interface Main Menu

This password allow to get the Main Menu in order to set up the first IP address of the controllers, during the first installation at the customer location, and to remove the Array password

The password to access the Service Interface Main Menu is defined in the Hardware Installation Guide of the product. Here is the link for the Sun StorageTek 6140:
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E19381-01/819-7497-11/819-7497-11.pdf

note : For the StorEdge[TM] 6130, this menu is only available with firmware 06.19.23.10 or higher.

Debug/Engineering password
This password is only for trained engineers. it allow access to the array shell in order to do deep troubleshooting or carry out action plan provided by engineering.

Note :
The passwords for Service 'Interface Main Menu' and for 'Debug/Engineering' are hard coded in the firmware and so, not user modifiable.

Internal Comments

To remove "Local Array password" on StorEdge[TM] 6130
with firmware lower than 06.19.23.10 , you can upgrade the array to
get "Service Interface Main Menu" or use the clrpw tool at
:

Please
view the README content on this page for the clrpw utility.

The
6130 has the service menu after release 06.19.23.10

Action: Currency update
Comment: Updated Title, Product and Internal section. Title is more concise, as
marketing changes in names will make the Title "sprawl".

Action: Approved
Comment: I was thinking about rejecting this update because it looked only cosmetic.
But the location of the README page was not so obvious, so ok, this hyperlink might be useful after all.
Publishing (no other change, for once Tech Review skipping is ok)
