Solution Type Technical Instruction Sure Solution 1011667.1 : How to Replace a Sun StorEdge[TM] A5x00 Disk Under AP 2.1 and Veritas Volume Manager control.
PreviouslyPublishedAs 215993 Description This document describes how to replace a Sun StorEdge[TM] A5x00 Disk Under AP 2.1 and Veritas Volume Manager control. Steps to Follow Describe the procedures to replace an Sun StorEdge A5x00 (photon) disk under the control of Alternate_Pathing (AP) and Veritas Volume Manager (VxVM) or Sun Enterprise Volume Manager[TM] (SEVM) or Sun StorEdge[TM] Volume Manager. Because the disk is controlled by two software products and the Solaris[TM] Operating Environment (OE), it is necessary to first take the disk out of the control of Volume Manager and the OS, then replace the disk and rebuild the path under AP. Then re-enable the disk under Volume Manager again. These steps are summarized, and focus chiefly on the AP aspect of the disk replacement. For an additional reference regarding normal A5x00 disk replacement, please see Technical Instruction <Document: 1004452.1>. 1) Prepare Veritas Volume Manager for disk replacement: - Select option 4 in vxdiskadm (prepare disk for replacement) - Select option 11 in vxdiskadm option 11 (disk offline) - offline the meta device, i.e. mcxtxdx - vxdctl enable 2) Remove Solaris[TM] disk device nodes, and remove disk from tray: - luxadm remove_device -F [boxname, drive position] (see luxadm reference manual) - physically remove disk from tray when prompted by luxadm. 3) Insert new disk and build Solaris device nodes: - luxadm insert_device [boxname, drive position] (see luxadm ref manual) - insert disk into tray when prompted by luxadm. - touch /devices 4) Reconfigure ap devices: - apdisk -u -p sf[instance#] -a sf[instance#] * get sf instance# from apconfig -S - apdb -C commit AP database - apconfig -S Verify Status and rebuilt AP paths - drvconfig -i ap_dmd - apconfig -R Verify status again to confirm apconfig -R worked - apconfig -S 5) Add replaced disk to Veritas Volume manager configuration: - vxdctl enable - select option 5 in vxdiskadm (replace disk that was removed) 6) If hotspare was used to replace failed disk, swap replaced disk back into volume(s): - If vxsparecheck is enabled, vxevac [hotspare] [replaced disk] - If using vxrelocd, Use GUI to drag hotspare subdisks and drop onto replaced disks.
