Description
This document provides the basic steps to review volume state, configuration, and settings information using the Browser or SSCS user interfaces. Use this document if:
  • Initiators are not listed in the UI
  • Initiators are missing information
  • Syntax/Usage is needed to get Initiator state/details

If you are looking for basic administrative tasks on the 6920, please reference

Steps to Follow
Validating Initiator State and Details for a Sun StorEdge[TM] 6920:

A. Validate Initiator Summary

The basic usage for listing a summary of initiators is as follows:

SSCS

sscs list -S storage_domain initiator

This will display:
* Initiator Name
* Storage Domain
* WWN of the initiator
* Status(online/offline)

Note that only initiators that are part of the storage domain specified will be listed. If no domain option is specified, the domain DEFAULT is assumed.

BUI

  1. Click on Configuration Services or Common Array Manager link
  2. Click on Physical Storage tab or menu tree.
  3. Click on Initiators tab

This will display:
* Initiator Name
* OS Type(Standard, HPUX, or Microsoft Windows/Emulex)
* Storage Domain
* State (allocated or free)
* Status (online or offline)
* WWN of the Initiator

A State of Free indicates that there are no volumes mapped to this initiator. A state of Allocated indicates that there are/were volumes
mapped to this initiator.

A Status of online indicates that the 6920 can see this Initiator, on at least one port. Offline indicates that the 6920 cannot see this Initiator, on any port.

B. Validate Initiator Details

SSCS

sscs list initiator <initiator_name>

This will list:
* Initiator Name
* Initiator Description
* Storage Domain
* Initiator WWN
* OS Type
* State
* Status
* Associations(volume associations/mappings)

BUI
# Click on Configuration Services or Common Array Manager link
# Click on Physical Storage tab or menu tree.
# Click on Initiators tab
# Click on Initiator Name link

This will display:
* Initiator Name
* Initiator Description
* Storage Domain
* Initiator WWN
* OS Type
* State
* Status
* Under the Additional Details table you will see a Mapped Volumes link that shows the number of volumes mapped to this initiator, and links you to a summary list of them.

Consider the following actions

  • If you are missing information in the detailed information go to Step D.
  • If an initiator listed has a State of Allocated and a Status of Offline go to Step C.
  • If the Volume details are correct, you have validated the Initiator Details, return to Step 2 of <Document: 1009915.1> Troubleshooting Sun StorEdge[TM] 6920 Configuration Problems

C. Data Collection for Missing or Incorrect Initiators

Please collect the following information:
