SolutionSun Fire[TM] V20z/V40z Server: How to Set up Mirroring (RAID 1) on Internal Disks running LinuxHardware RAID is transparent to the operation system (OS). The OS will only see *ONE* drive if RAID is enabled. See instructions below for setting up RAID: NOTE: if console redirection is enabled and the serial port is used, refer to the "Sun Fire V20z Server User Guide" for the correct escape sequences (Section 2.3: Escape Sequences for Remote Console Terminal). 1. During the boot, watch for LSI messages prompting you to press <CTRL><C> to enter the LSI configuration utility: a. <CTRL><C> to start LSI configuration. b. Press <CTRL><C>. 2. Use the arrow keys to select an adapter: Press Enter to go to the Adapter Properties screen. 3. Use the arrow keys to select RAID properties, and press Enter. 4. On the RAID properties screen, move to the line with the primary disk (the disk with the data that you want to mirror). 5. Use the arrow keys to move to the array disk column and use the +/- keys to select Yes as the value. 6. When the KeepData/Erase Disk message appears, press <F3> to keep the data that is on the disk. The value in the Status column will change to Primary. 7. Use the arrow keys to select the secondary (mirrored) disk for the volume. Use the ? keys to select Yes as the value for the Array disk column. If partitions are defined on this disk, a message warns you that data on the disk will be lost when the mirror is created. Press <DEL> to confirm erasing data from the disk. 8. Press <ESC> and select Save changes, then exit this menu. If you do not want to create the volume, select Discard Changes, then exit the menu. The mirror volume exists as soon as you save the changes. The RAID properties screen now displays the mirror volume properties and status.
