Description
The Sun StorEdge[TM] 6130 Management Host software includes a command line utility "6130SupportData" to gather support data from an array. This document describes how to use that utility.

THIS DOCUMENT DOES NOT APPLY IF THE MANAGEMENT HOST SOFTWARE HAS BEEN UPGRADED TO Sun StorageTek[TM] Common Array Manager (CAM) SOFTWARE - PLEASE SEE SUNSOLVE DOCUMENT 87242 INSTEAD

Some functionality varies with different versions of the Management Host software. To determine the version of Management Host Software installed, run showrev -p | grep 118164 :

  • If no revision of the patch is installed, this indicates version 1.0
  • If 118164-01 or 118164-02 is the highest revision of the patch installed, this indicates version 1.1
  • If 118164-03 or 118164-04 is the highest revision of the patch installed, this indicates version 1.2
  • If 118164-05 or 118164-06 is the highest revision of the patch installed, this indicates version 1.3

Steps to Follow
Troubleshooting Steps

Usage

The "6130SupportData" utility is in the directory /opt/SUNWstade/bin/
The syntax to run the "6130SupportData" utility is :

 6130SupportData <deviceKey | array name | ip number | ip name> <path> <filename>

where

<deviceKey> is the internal Array Serial Number
<array name> is the Name of the Array assigned in Configuration Service
<ip number> is the ip address of either the A or B controller
<ip name> is the fully qualified DNS name of either the A or B controller

<path> is the location where you want the output written.
<filename> is the output file to be created.

NB: <path> must be writable by the user "noaccess" because the "6130SupportData" utility writes the output as the "noaccess" user. If <path> is not writable by the "noaccess" user, then the "6130SupportData" utility will fail.

The output file will be in a zip format.

Version Specific Information

If version 1.0 of the Management Host software is installed, then :

The "6130SupportData" utility requires the Array Serial Number, and will not accept the Array Name, the Array IP Address or the Array Hostname as the array identifier.

The following commands can be used to determine the Array Serial Number :

Login to SSCS (if you are not logged in already). When prompted for a password, enter the root password. This is required even if you are already logged in as the root user :

 # cd /opt/se6x20/cli/bin
 # ./sscs login -h localhost -u root
Type your password:

Find the name of the array from the list of arrays the software is configured to manage, and determine the serial number of that array :

 # ./sscs list array
Array: <ARRAY-NAME1>
Array: <ARRAY-NAME2>
 # ./sscs list array <ARRAY-NAME2>
Array: <ARRAY-NAME2>
Serial Number: SUN.54062390100.0428AWF00D
Firmware Version: 06.10.09.15
....

If version 1.2 or lower of the Management Host software is installed, then :

If the Sun StorEdge[TM] 6130 has an "array password" set, the password must be entered in StorADE GUI before running the 6130SupportData utility, otherwise the 6130SupportData utility will not gather a complete set of information. This applies even if the password has been entered in Configuration Service - i.e. the same password must be entered in two different places within the Management Host software. The way to enter a password for the array in StorADE is :

  • Login to the "Web Console" running on the Management Host : https://<hostname>:6789/
  • Click "Storage Automated Diagnostic Environment" > "Inventory".
The "Devices" page is displayed showing summary information for each system device.
  • Click the name of the SE6130 array within the list of devices
The "Device Details" page for the selected device is displayed.
  • From the Actions drop-down menu, select "Update Monitoring and Setup Information".
The "Monitoring and Setup Information" pop-up window is displayed for the device.
  • Enter the array password in the "Password" field.
  • Click OK.

Management Host software version 1.3 no longer requires this - if the password is not entered in StorADE, the utility will automatically use the password entered in Configuration Service

Examples

Some examples of using the 6130SupportData utility :

Management Host Software 1.0 (must use Array Serial Number, see above) :

 # /opt/SUNWstade/bin/6130SupportData SUN.54062390100.0428AWF00D /tmp support
Collecting support data for SUN.54062390100.0428AWF00D
rval= $VAR1 = 'Success';
#

Management Host Software 1.3 (using the Array Name, in this case "my-se6130") :

 # /opt/SUNWstade/bin/6130SupportData my-se6130 /tmp support
Collecting support data for my-se6130
Completion status: Success

The output file created by these commands is /tmp/support.zip
