Goal
DescriptionThis Technical Instruction will assist the reader in how to determine the version of ALOM firmware installed on their system, and from where to download the latest officially supported version.
The Sun[TM] Volume System Products (VSP) business unit and the Sun[TM] Customer
Support VSP Product Technical Support group, recommend that the ALOM of all VSP hardware platforms with the ALOM feature, to be at the latest officially supported release, which is available from the external Sun software download web site (detailed below).
Note: ALOM can also be referred to as the:
"system controller", "system management controller","remote management controller”.
Solution
Steps to FollowTo obtain the current ALOM version installed on your system execute either of the the following commands:
From Solaris:
# /usr/platform/`uname -i`/sbin/scadm version -v
From within ALOM:
sc> showsc
The latest/current version of ALOM is always available from the external Sun software download web site.
You can reach that web site, starting from the following link:
http://www.sun.com/servers/alom.html
This gives an overview of the latest/current version of ALOM, as well as further links to Download the software, and for related Documentation.
Note: Recent ALOM software now offers 2 options to download. Please ensure that you download the CORRECT ALOM software for the system you are wanting to update.
Choose the appropriate package for the system type:
ALOM 1.6.10 Firmware for Sun Fire V215, V245 and V445
ALOM_1.6.10_fw_hw8.tar.gz 20.36 MB
ALOM 1.6.10 Firmware for Sun Fire V125, V210, V240, V250, V440, and Netra 210, 240 and 440
ALOM_1.6.10_fw_hw0.tar.gz 20.11 MB
Additional Information:
Here are some example outputs when trying to determine your current version of ALOM. These examples use the commands listed previously:
