Solution Type Technical Instruction Sure Solution 1009329.1 : Queue depth setting on the Sun StorEdge[TM] 3511 Array
PreviouslyPublishedAs 212910 Description The default value was changed to 32 from 8 with the release of the 5.55a SATA Router code in the 4.1x release of the controller firmware. Steps to Follow There are two queue depth settings on the SE3000 array. Drive side which affects the backend, and Host side which affects the queue the controller allocates for host I/O. This discussion centers on the drive side value: * drive-parameters queue-depth: 8 This value is referred to in the firmware menu and documentation as the Maximum Tag Count (Tag Command Queueing). Before the release of the 4.1x controller firmware, a SATA router bug was introduced in version 5.54e of that firmware when queuing more than the supported 128 commands. Instead of sending back queue full status the command would sometimes get stuck between the Sierra Logic controllers on the router. To work around this problem, the queue depth was limited to 8. This firmware bug was resolved in the 5.55a release of the SATA router firmware, and the queue depth parameter was adjusted to 32 to be consistent with the 3510 default value. When upgrading from 3.27x to 4.1X, when you save the NVRAM configuration to disk this parameter will get saved. When your configuration is restored this value will assume the original value of 8. It is recommended that you check this value after an upgrade, and modify the parameter to the new default of 32. A change to this value does not require a reset to the array.
