Description
In certain configurations it is necessary to use host filters in order to fulfill the lun 0 scsi requirement for all hosts in a san.
Please see <Document: 1017707.1> for an explanation of the lun 0 scsi requirement.

Steps to Follow
How to map partitions to multiple hosts in a SAN using host filters:

NOTE:  This is a sub-set of Technical Instruction <Document: 1005313.1> : "Troubleshooting  Sun StorEdge[TM]  33x0/351x Configuration."

When connecting to the array through a switch with the array in point-to-point mode only one target (PID or SID) is allowed for
each host channel.  In addition, only one host connection perhost channel, (upper or lower port) is allowed.
Therefore, when trying to map multiple logical drives to a given host channel so that every host in the SAN has its own lun 0, host
filters must be used. The following procedure is a step by step guide to implementing host filters using the firmware menu
interface. We begin after the LDshave been created and partitioned and the scsi channels have been correctly configured.

See Chapter 6 of the Sun StorEdge 3000 Family Installation, Operation, and Service Manual for information on how to Create a Logical drive,
Partition a Logical drive and Map Logical Drive Partitions to Host LUNs.

Note:  At any time your keyboard selection options are displayed at the bottom of the window.

  1. Establish a serial connection to the array.

  2. From the main menu select  View and edit Host luns

  3. Select a host channel, either primary or secondary controller.

  4. Select either  Logical Drive  or  Logical Volume .

  5. Select LUN 0.

  6. Select the LD you want to map.

  7. Select the partition you want to map.

  8. Select  Create Host Filter Entry .

  9. Select either  Add from current device list  (or  Manual add host filter entry ).  If you select  Add from current device list  proceed with step 10.  If you select  Manual add host filter entry  skip to step 12.

  10. Select the  WWPN  of the hba to which you wish to add this LD filter.

  11. Confirm with  Yes .

  12. The next window lists several other configurable parameters.  To change any of them select it and make any desired changes.

    Host_ID/WWN   edit if needed

    Host_ID/WWN Mask   edit if needed

Filter Type -   Include  or  Exclude

    Access Mode    Read/Write  or  Read-Only

    Name   user configurable name

  13.  Confirm your choices with the esc key.

  14.   Add Host Filter Entry   Select  Yes .

  15.  The next window lists the  Host-ID/WWN  you selected.  Hit the esc key to confirm the single filter.  (Note:  If you do not hit the esc key now the filtering may fail and you will have to start over!)

  16.  At the next window select  Yes .

  17. This will bring you back to the window listing LUNs 0 through 8.  Under the LUN column you will see  M  which indicates the presence of host filters.

To map another LD on the same host channel as above different steps are used.

  1. From the window in step 17 select LUN 0 again.

  2. Select  View and edit host filtering .

  3. Select the  Host-ID/WWN  listed that you created previously.

  4. Select  Add Host Filter Entry .

  5. Select  Logical Drive  or  Logical Volume .

  6. Select the LD you want to map.

  7. Select the partition you want to map.

  8. Repeat steps 9-17 above.
