PreviouslyPublishedAs 212231 Description How to configure a dial-in modem on Sun Fire[TM] V120/V100. Steps to Follow 1.) Connect an externial Hayes compatible modem (one that responds to 'at' commands) on either Port A or B. Note that port A is considered to be the console port and has no modem dial in capabilities, but may be used for dial out. Port B can be used for DIALOUT or DIALIN use. Port B does provide the required DCD signal for dial-in. This DCD signal tells Solaris ttymon process the modem is requesting a login. 2.) Configure the modem cable in accordance to the pinouts below. Signal RJ45 DB25 Modem ------ ---- ---------- RTS 1 -- 4 DTR 2 -- 20 TXD 3 -- 2 Signal Ground 4 -- 1 Signal Ground 5 -- 7 RXD 6 -- 3 DSR(DCD) 7 -- 8 CTS 8 -- 5 3.) Using Admintool, configure the modem for bi-directional. If unable to run Admintool, Run the command; #pmadm -a -p zsmon -s ttyb -i root -v `ttyadm -V` -fu -m "`ttyadm -b -S n -d /dev/term/b -s /usr/bin/login -l 38400 -m ldterm, ttcompat`" -y "Bi-Directional modem" To verify that the service is running use the pmadm -l command. You should see something like; #pmadm -l zsmon ttymon ttyb u root /dev/term/b b - /usr/bin/login - 38400 ldterm, ttcompat login: - - n #Modem Bidirectional 3a.) If you wish to delete the service, use admintool or the following command. #pmadm -r -p zsmon -s ttyb 4.) Using TIP, configure the actual modem for dial-in. This will also sync the modem with the computer to avoid garbage logins. Note. Always TIP into the modem using the dialin speed used in configuring the login service. # tip -38400 /dev/cua/b Connected at ok at&f (reset to factory) ats0=1 (AutoAnswer on 1 ring. that's a zero) ok at&c1&s1&d2 (sets DCD and DTR to transition) ok at&w (write permanent) <cr> ~ . (to exit TIP) Done.
