For general information regarding library operations, including the SL500 library, refer to the ACSLS ICAG (Installation, Configuration, and Administration Guide). _SL500 Library Reports Invalid Media Type for SDLT cleaning cartridges_ When ACSLS is managing a mixed-media SL500 library, SDLT cleaning cartridges will be reported by ACSLS as having an invalid media type. These cartridges will be rejected when entered into a CAP, and will be ejected when found within the library. Cartridge types that are affected include: * Eight character labels with S1 and a volser of CLN*** This problem is caused by a misreporting of media type by the library firmware (the affected cleaning cartridges are incorrectly reported as having a media type of "N"). No workaround is currently available. The problem can appear in SL500 library code versions up to and including version 1092. A resolution will be included in a subsequent release of the library firmware. _SL500 Libraries Managed by ACSLS must report 6-character volser labels via SCSI interface_ With version 1092 of the SL500 firmware, it is possible to configure the SL500 library to report cartridge labels via the SCSI interface in a number of formats, including seven- or eight-character format. When ACSLS is managing the library, the recommended setting would be for the SL500 to report volume identifiers using the standard 6-character format. Other label formats may not be supported by ACSLS. The following service command would ensure the desired library setting using the SL500 command line interface: orientlabel host left6 Please note that changes to library configurations settings are normally performed by a service representative. Additional information about SL500 library support for cartridge labels can be found in the SL500 Users Guide.
