Applies to:Sun Storage C4 Tape LibraryAll Platforms Checked for relevance on 3-Jan-2011. GoalDescriptionC4 tape libraries are showing excessive failures in the chassis FRU. This is due to them being swapped out to repair a damaged robot umbillical cable. (Connects chassis to robot assembly). SolutionThe number one reason for swapping out a C4 chassis is umbilical cable damage. This damage happens due to poor handling of the robot assembly due to adjustments or repair of the robot assembly or in other actions that could cause the umbilical cable to come our of its track. When it is out of the track the robot assembly will run it over and damage it when the C4 is re-powered. In some cases the same thing happens due to improper shipping restraint placement.
There are three solutions to this issue. 1. Be careful in the handling of the robot (hand) assembly and make sure the umbilical cord is in its track when done. 2. A redesign of the chassis FRU has been made where the umbilical cable no longer is a part of the chassis so it can be obtained without ordering a chassis FRU. 3. Shipping restraints have been redesigned and should be available via the parts system. Part number for this cable is:
