Solution Type Technical Instruction Sure Solution 1008112.1 : Sun StorEdge[TM] 9985: How to Calculate the Service Processor (SVP) IP Address Based on a Subsystem Serial Number
PreviouslyPublishedAs 211156 Oracle Confidential (INTERNAL). Do not distribute to customers Reason: Migrated distribution from Sun Description This document explains how to calculate the SVP internal IP address on the Sun StorEdge[TM] 9985 (SE9985). The IP address calculation is far different than for previous models and as such you must follow the table included below to determine the correct IP address. Steps to Follow The actual math is demonstrated here: Subtract 40,000 from the actual serial number, and then use a scientific calculator to convert the IP Address serial number 4xxxx to a hex value, then convert the hex value chunks to decimal values, to determine the middle two chunks of the 126.xxx.xxx.15 SVP IP address. For example: SE9985 Serial number Breakdown: [X][YYYY] (5-digit decimal number) X : Factory/Model code 1-digit decimal number: 0-9 Y : Consecutive number 4-digit decimal number: 0000-9999
For example take Serial Number 86300,which falls in the range of 85000-89999 and subtract the corresponding value of 50000 as indicated in the corresponding "IP Address" column. Always use the first number in the range to subtract from your serial number. You would use 10000 to subtract if your serial number was 20014. Use 50000 if your serial number was 25193 and 35000 if your serial number was 72543. 86300 - 50000 = 36300 (decimal) SVP IP = 126.141.204.15 Product Sun StorageTek 9985 System 9985, ip, address, calculation Previously Published As 84491 Change History Date: 2006-03-08 User Name: 97961 Action: Approved Comment: - Tidied up formatting - Made simple sentence/grammatical corrections Version: 3 Date: 2006-03-08 User Name: 97961 Action: Accept Comment: Version: 0 Date: 2006-03-08 User Name: 117992 Action: Approved Comment: added notes about always using the first number in the ip range for clarification.
