Description

This document explains how to calculate the SVP internal IP address on the Sun StorEdge[TM] 9985 (SE9985). The IP address calculation is far different than for previous models and as such you must follow the table included below to determine the correct IP address.

Steps to Follow

The actual math is demonstrated here:

Subtract 40,000 from the actual serial number, and then use a scientific calculator to convert the IP Address serial number 4xxxx to a hex value, then convert the hex value chunks to decimal values, to determine the middle two chunks of the 126.xxx.xxx.15 SVP IP address.

For example:
Actual NSC55 serial number = 80024
80024 - 40000 = 40024
40024 (decimal) = 9C58 (hex)
9C (hex) = 156 (decimal), and 58 (hex) = 88 (decimal)
SVP IP Address = 126.156.88.15, for serial number 80024.

SE9985 Serial number Breakdown:

  [X][YYYY] (5-digit decimal number)
     X : Factory/Model code 1-digit decimal number: 0-9
Y : Consecutive number 4-digit decimal number: 0000-9999
Factory/model code Serial Number IP address Serial Number IP address
0 0-4999 0-4999 5000-9999 50000-54999
1 10000-14999 5000-9999 15000-19999 55000-59999
2 20000-24999 10000-14999 25000-29999 50000-54999
3 30000-34999 15000-19999 35000-39999 55000-59999
4 40000-44999 20000-24999 45000-49999 50000-54999
5 50000-54999 25000-29999 55000-59999 55000-59999
6 60000-64999 30000-34999 65000-69999 50000-54999
7 70000-74999 35000-39999 75000-79999 55000-59999
8 80000-84999 40000-44999 85000-89999 50000-54999
9 90000-94999 45000-49999 95000-99999 55000-59999

For example take Serial Number 86300,which falls in the range of 85000-89999 and subtract the corresponding value of 50000 as indicated in the corresponding "IP Address" column. Always use the first number in the range to subtract from your serial number. You would use 10000 to subtract if your serial number was 20014. Use 50000 if your serial number was 25193 and 35000 if your serial number was 72543.

86300 - 50000 = 36300 (decimal)
Hex Value = 8DCC
Second octet "8D" (hex) = 141 (decimal)
Third octet "CC" (hex) = 204 (decimal)

SVP IP = 126.141.204.15
