Solution

Steps to Follow

Power down the host system (using the front panel power button) or STOP or poweroff command from the SP's root/ ILOM or SP's admin/ALOM command line interfaces, respectively.
Unplug the system's power cord(s)

Remove the system's top cover.

Implement all the usual anti-static-discharge methods...

Prepare an antistatic surface to set parts on during  the removal, installation, or replacement process.

Place ESD-sensitive components such as the printed  circuit boards on an antistatic mat. The following items can be used as an antistatic mat:

  • Antistatic bag used to wrap a Sun replacement part
  • Sun ESD mat, part number 250-1088
  • A disposable ESD mat (shipped with some replacement parts or optional system components)

When servicing or removing server components, attach an antistatic strap to your wrist and then to a metal area on the chassis.

REMOVING THE DVD / USB MODULE

  • Remove the following hard drives:
  • Each is the Hard Disk farthest to the right as you look at the front of the system.
  • T5120server: HDD3
  • T5220server: HDD7
  • Release the DVD/USB module from the hard drive backplane.
  • Use the finger indent in the hard drive bay below the DVD/USB module to extend the release tab
  • Slide the DVD/USB module out of the hard drive cage.

NOTE: Some of the initial T5120/5220's did not have the release tab. Simply put your finger in the indent in the hard drive bay below the DVD/USB module, pull hard forward on the DVD/USB Module to remove it from the system.

A few sharp pulls may be necessary to disengage the DVD/USB module from the Hard Disk Backplane. Have you other hand in position to grasp the DVD/USB module should it release quickly from the Hard Disk Backplane. Place the DVD/USB Module on an antistatic mat or in an Antistatic bag.

INSTALLING THE DVD / USB MODULE

  • Slide the DVD/USB module into the front of the chassis until it seats.
  • If the system has a pull tab, slide the pull tab back into the system.
  • Install the hard drive you removed during the DVD/USB module removal procedure.

Replace the system's top cover. Plug in the system's power cord(s).

If the system administrator would like the Host powered-up, that can be done using the front panel power button or via a login to the SP's  root  or admin  accounts  and the appropriate   START or  poweron, respectively, may be used.
