PreviouslyPublishedAs 209493 Description This document describes the cylinder, track, and sector size ratios for Sun Storage[TM] 2500 and 6000 Arrays. This is useful when comparing the size between these arrays and other array models. For Solaris[TM] Operating System (OS), this is especially important, since disk label partitioning for non-EFI labels is performed on a cylinder boundary. That means that migration or mirroring plans must take into account the disk geometry provided by an array. Steps to Follow Cylinder/Track/Sector Sizing for Volumes The Cylinder/Track/Sector ratios vary according to the following table:
Note1: A sector is 512-bytes. This is also known as a "block". Example: A volume created as follows: sscs create -a arrayname -p profile -s 204800MB volume volume_name will have a size of 200GB. This translates to: Tracks per cylinder: 128 Sectors per Track : 64 Total Cylinders : 51200 (51198 + 2 reserved cylinders) and is shown in Solaris OS as follows: 3. c6t200500A0B8170E1Dd0 <SUN-CSM100_R_FC-0612 cyl 51198 alt 2 hd 128 sec 64> Total disk cylinders available: 51198 + 2 (reserved cylinders) Part Tag Flag Cylinders Size Blocks 0 root wm 0 - 31 128.00MB (32/0/0) 262144 1 swap wu 32 - 63 128.00MB (32/0/0) 262144 2 backup wu 0 - 51197 199.99GB (51198/0/0) 419414016
