Symptoms:

- failed drive

- degraded LUN

- ASC/ASCQ syslog messages

Environmental Considerations:

- This document assumes that a single drive failure has been validated.

Steps to Follow
Troubleshooting Steps:

NOTE: This is a sub-set of Troubleshooting <Document: 1009745.1> : "Troubleshooting Sun StorEdge[TM] T3 Disk Failures."  The steps below will help you in the replacement of a T3 disk and verifying the replacement was successful.  If the drive has failed more than once, please recheck the syslog and fru stat output.

1. Initiate Disk replacement.

Note: Retain the failed disk until after volume sync is completed after disk replacement.  The volumes sync can be monitored with "proc list."  This can take some time.

2. Verify the state of  the drive replacement by using the 'vol stat' command. The  volume and drive status in a mounted state confirms the drive replacement was successful. It may take a while for the drive replacement to complete as it copies data back to the replaced drive.

     Example:

     storage-t3b:/:<22>vol stat
v1: mounted
u1d05: mounted
u1d06: mounted
u1d07: mounted
u1d08: mounted
Standby: u1d09: mounted
v3: mounted
u2d05: mounted
u2d06: mounted
u2d07: mounted
u2d08: mounted
Standby: u2d09: mounted

3. If  the disk replacement fails for the first time repeat the steps in Troubleshooting <Document: 1009745.1>  : "Troubleshooting Sun StorEdge[TM] T3 Disk Failures."
