Solution Type Technical Instruction Sure Solution 1006605.1 : Sun StorEdge[TM] 3510/3511 Arrays: Definitions of the Logical Drive Firmware Menu
PreviouslyPublishedAs 209214 Description In the firmware menu on Sun StorEdge[TM] 3510/3511 arrays, the 'view and edit Logical drives' menu has columns that are helpful in determining the layout of the logical drive. Here are the definitions of the old firmware menu and the new menu with 4.11i firmware. Steps to Follow Sun StorEdge[TM] 3510/3511 Arrays: Definitions of the Logical Drive Firmware Menu: Refer to Figure 1.
LG Logical Group
P Assigned to Primary S Assigned to Secondary
ID Unique id for the Logical Drive
LV Logical Volume
States whether or not the logical drive is associated with a logical volume, and which one
Raid Raid Level
Size Size of the Logical Drive, in Megabytes
Status Status of the logical Drive
Good No Faults Drv Failed One or More Failures, Still Have Access to Data Drv Absent Missing drive a power on or missing after controller reset Fatal Fail One or More Failures, No Access to Data Incomplete Too many disks are absent to create a valid logical drive
O Cache Policy / Stripe Depth
S Sequential = 128K blk Size R Random = 32K blk Size
#LN Number of Non-failed Drives in the Logical Drive
#SB Number of Spare Drives in the Logical Drives
#FL Number of Failed Drives in the Logical Drive
Name User Defined Name to Help With Administration
In the new firmware 4.11i and sccli 2.0 (needed for 4.11i firmware) there are a few additions / changes to the columns. Refer to Figure 2.
LG Logical Group
P Assigned to Primary S Assigned to Secondary
ID Unique ID for the Logical Drive
Randomly Generated from controller serial number
LV Logical Volume
States whether or not the logical drive is associated with a logical volume, and which one.
Raid Raid Level
Size Size of the Logical Drive
Status 1 Status of the Logical Drive
Good No Faults Drv Failed One or More Failures, Still Have Access to Data Drv Absent Missing drive a power on or missing after controller reset Fatal Fail One or More Failures, No Access to Data Incomplete Too many disks are absent to create a valid logical drive
2 Flagged if there is a change in the configuration of the Logical Drive
I Initializing the Logical Drive A Adding Drive/s to the Logical Drive E Expanding the Logical Drive Will show the percentage with the LG number in the upper left hand corner under the date.
3 Flagged when Running Parity Check
P Parity Check of the Logical Drive R Rebuilding the Logical Drive Will show the percentage with the LG number in the upper left hand corner under the date.
O Optimized Stripe Depth
This column has changed, and reflects the stripe width ONLY 2 = 4k Blk Size 3 = 8k Blk Size 4 = 16k Blk Size 5 = 32k Blk Size 6 = 64k Blk Size 7 = 128k Blk Size 8 = 256k Blk Size Note: 4k and 8k block sizes can only be used with Random (32k) cache policy.
C Cache Policy
B Write Behind T Write Through You can set the 'default' cache policy in the 'view and edit Configuration parameters --> Caching Parameters. Can be set per logical drive as well.
#LN Number of Non-failed Drives in the Logical Drive
#SB Number of Spare Drives in the Logical Drives
#FL Number of Failed Drives in the Logical Drive
Name User Defined Name to Help With Administration
Version 2.0 of sccli also added some fields to reflect the additions of the firmware menu. You can get the same information, but it will require four commands to get it. Refer to Figure 3.
show logical-drives
Shows all of the fields that are in the 'view and edit Logical drives'
menu, with the exception of logical volume associations
Note the P and I flags at the end of the entries for ld1 and ld3 respectively
show logical-volumes
Shows logical volumes and their associated logical drives
show logical-drives initializing
Shows the percentage of all logical drives that are initializing
show logical-drives parity-check
Show the percentage of all logical drives that are running a parity check Product Sun StorageTek 3511 SATA Array Sun StorageTek 3510 FC Array firmware menu, menu, firmware, minnow, logical drive, 3510, 3511 Previously Published As 81757 Change History Date: 2007-05-11 User Name: T209852 Action: Approved Comment: Moved 3 images as attachments in preparation for IBIS migration.
