Description
This document describes how to move a Sun StorEdge[TM] A5x00 between servers.

Steps to Follow
If the A5x00 has disks under Veritas Volume manager use the following steps:
1. Unmount volumes

2. Deport the disk groups from the array:

Note: if the disk group you are deporting is not exclusively located on the
array (if for example you have internal disks and disks on the photon in the
same disk group) you cannot deport and you will have to recreate volumes
from scratch once the array is moved.

   vxdg deport dgname

3. Remove the A5x000 from the OS:

   luxadm remove name
cd /dev/es
rm *

4. Disconnect cabling and connect the A5x000 to the destination server:

5. Be sure you have the following packages installed on the array for A5x00 support:

   SUNWeulux
SUNWluxd
SUNWluxdx
SUNWluxl
SUNWluxlx
SUNWluxop
SUNWvolux
SUNWses
SUNWsesx
SUNWifp
SUNWifph
SUNWifpx

6. Add the array to the OS:

   luxadm insert

7. Import your Veritas disk groups:

   vxdg -C import dgname

8. Mount your volumes.

If the photon has disks under Solstice DiskSuite[TM] control use the following steps:

1. Backup the data on the volumes as with controller number changes and
configuration differences data may not move straight across for DiskSuite.

2. Make a copy of the /etc/lvm/md.cf which stores the configuration
information for DiskSuite volumes.

3. Remove the A5x000 from the OS:

   luxadm remove name
cd /dev/es
rm *

4. Disconnect cabling and connect the A5x000 to the destination server:

   SUNWeulux
SUNWluxd
SUNWluxdx
SUNWluxl
SUNWluxlx
SUNWluxop
SUNWvolux
SUNWses
SUNWsesx
SUNWifp
SUNWifph
SUNWifpx

6. Add the array to the OS:

   luxadm insert

7. Copy the information from the /etc/lvm/md.cf file into your
/etc/lvm/md.tab file on the new system. Modify the information in the file
to be sure it only includes the volumes you are trying to recover.

NOTE: For this procedure to work it assumes your controller numbers stayed the
same when moving the array to a different server.

8. Create metadevices:

   metainit -a

9. Mount volumes.
