Description
During install of Red Hat RHEL3 WS U4, you may notice a slight delay during boot, or see the following repeated warnings during bootup:

hda: IRQ probe failed (0xfffffef8)
hda: IRQ probe failed (0xfffffef8)
hda: no response (status = 0x0a), resetting drive

After a short delay, the system continues to boot and the system functions normally.

Steps to Follow
This issue is only seen on K2.5 motherboards (380-1194).
This issue is not seen on K1 or K2 mother boards.

You can check remotely for a K2.5 motherboard using the following SP command

 inventory get hardware

and look at the "motherboard" line. It will contain S02595 or S02615.

The workaround is to disable the Primary IDE controller in the BIOS.

1. Boot the system.
2. Press F2 to enter SETUP
3. Wait for POST to finish. When the BIOS Screen starts, arrow right to "ADVANCED"
4. Arrow down to "I/O Device Configuration"
5. Press the enter key
6. Arrow down to "Onboard PCI IDE:"
7. Press the enter key
8. Arrow down to change the setting from "Both" to "Secondary"
9. Press the enter key
10. Press the F10 key to save changes
11. Press the enter to confirm changes

The system will reboot and you should no longer see the warning or the delay.

Comment: Just changed this to include the V20z and not the V40z.

This is a well documented issue and hopefully will reduce cu calls.
