Description
Documentation does not exist on how to remove 99xx devices from a Windows PC. I will be writing a documentation bug against this, but in the mean time, here's how you do it.

Steps to Follow
Adding 99xx devices requires a reboot as documented in the Windows 2000 99xx Configuration Guide. However, there is no documentation regarding how to remove devices.
On a Win2k PC, you manage disks with Start -> Programs -> Administrator Tools ->
Computer Management -> Storage -> Disk Management. There may be times when you want to remove disks if the 99xx array is detached or reconfigured.
Removing LUNs does not require a reboot in a non-clustered environment. I have seen cases where a reboot is necessary in cluster environments due to reservations on the devices.
Removing LUNs in a non-clustered environment:
1. Unmap the LDEVs via remote console, or Storage Navigator.
2. Run "Rescan Disks" on the PC:
Start -> Programs -> Administrator Tools ->
Computer Management -> Storage -> Disk Management -> Rescan Disks
and it will dynamically remove the devices. You will no longer see them in the disk management window.

Comment: Hi Tony,

I added:

per your suggestion. Let me know if this does the trick.

Thanks.

Comment: Returning to author for clarification. The document should explain what the procedure actually achieves. "Remove the devices from a PC" in what sense? Presumably this refers to some management utility which was managing 99xx devices and no longer is required to - please explain which utility this is and under what circumstances this procedure is necessary. Thanks.
