PreviouslyPublishedAs 205274 Description The Sun Fire[TM] V20Z supports three kinds of motherboard, and the Sun Fire[TM] V40z supports three kinds of motherboard all with different part numbers. Motherboard failure requires the whole System Chassis Fru be replaced, and its order process can cause confusion since neither system is labeled externally with the part number of the Chassis Field Replaceable Unit (FRU). The Manufacturing and FRU part numbers of the Sun Fire V20z were changed in November 2004, to differentiate between the 1.0 (380-0979) and 2.0 (380-1168) builds. System Board changes include addition of fan speed control circuitry, removal of the Slot 1 PCI Card Guide, and a new Broadcom Dual Ethernet Controller. The V20z with the Broadcom Dual Ethernet Controller requires an Install-Time Update to install Solaris[TM 9 4/04 and Solaris[TM 9 9/04. The 2.0 chassis allows the usage of the CG stepping CPUs in addition to the C0 allowed on the 1.0 chassis. The Manufacturing and FRU part numbers of the Sun Fire V20z were changed in March 2005 to differentiate between the 2.0 and 2.5 (380-1194) builds. The 2.5 chassis supports the Opteron E4 & E6 Stepping processors. The Manufacturing and FRU part numbers of the Sun Fire[TM] V40z were changed in March 2005 to differentiate between the 1.0 (380-1010) and 2.0 (380-1206) builds. The 1.0 Chassis only supports Opteron CG Stepping processors and the 2.0 supports E1 & E4 Stepping processors. Reference the following for more Motherboard differences and CPU stepping information: http://www.sun.com/products-n-solutions/hardware/docs/pdf/817-7185-11.pdf Steps to Follow There are two ways to identify which Whole System Fru is installed. 1. From the sp use the get inventory all command. sp $ inventory get all -v (Find the entry for the Motherboard) Name Type OEM Manufacture Date Hardware Revision Part # Motherboard planar S-SCI431 2004-04-23 A01 S01625 Match the Motherboard Part # (SO1625) listed under The Whole System Fru in the SSH. Order the Whole System Fru that supports your Motherboard. Model Whole System Fru Description Motherboard v20z 380-0979 Khepri 1 S01357, S00401, S00190, or S00189 v20z 380-1168 Khepri 2 S02398, S02035, orS02009 v20z 380-1194 Khepri 2.5 S02595 or S02615 _____________________________________________________________________________ v40z 380-1010 Sobek 1 S00401 or S01625 v40z 380-1206 Sobek 2 S02398 or S02399 v40z 380-1378 Sobek 3 S04816 or S04959 2. If you can't get access to the SP, you must open up the chassis to determine the part #. The Sun Fire V20z chassis is not labeled externally with the part number of the Chassis FRU. The Barcode and Part Number label on the lower right rear of the chassis is the top level manufacturing part number for the whole system. The label identifying the Sun Fire V20z Chassis FRU is located inside the chassis, in front of Fan 5 and Fan 6, between Disk 1 and the DVD. The label includes a Barcode, Part Number, and Description. |||||||||||||||||||||||| 380-0979 SUPER FRU CHASSIS |||||||||||||||||||||||| 380-1168 SUPER FRU CHASSIS |||||||||||||||||||||||| 380-1194 SUPER FRU CHASSIS The Sun Fire V40z chassis is not labeled externally with the part number of the Chassis FRU.
