Solution Type Technical Instruction Sure Solution 1002442.1 : Setting the time on a Sun StorEdge [TM] 3510 FC Array
PreviouslyPublishedAs 203415 Description The 3510 array uses it's own internal time keeping mechanism. The date and time on the 3510 should be set so that event messages in the event log display the date and time of the event correctly Steps to Follow The Date, Time and Time Zone can be set by either accessing the array firmware or by the use of sccli. Accessing the array firmware to set the Date and Time You can access the controller firmware through a telnet session to the ip address of the array. The Main Menu appears as follows once the Terninal type (VT100 mode) has been selected: <Main Menu> view and edit Logical drives
Note: Because Fibre Channel, SATA, and SCSI arrays share the same controller From the Main Menu select: view and edit Configuration From this menu select: Controller Parameters From this menu select: Set Controller Date and Time This menu gives you 2 options: Time Zone Selecting Time Zone displays the following Default Time Zone - GMT +08:00 Your time zone is specified as Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) followed by Selecting Date and Time displays the following Time and Date [MMDDhhmm[[YYYY] : 072511052004 for 11:05 a.m., July 25, 2004. see the sccli section for the appropriate values for these paramaters Using sccli to set the date and time sccli> set controller-date month day hh:mm:ss year time-zone where: Argument Description =========================== month Specify the month in abbreviated format. Valid values: Jan, Feb, Mar, Apr, May, Jun, Jul, Aug, Sep, Oct, Nov, Dec day Specify the day of the month. Valid values: 1 31. hh:mm:ss Specify the controller time based on a 24-hour system. hh: Specify the hour. Valid values: 0 23. mm: Specify the minute. Valid values: 1 59. ss: Specify the seconds. Valid values: 1 59. year Specify the year. If you do not specify the year, it is automatically set to the year set in the RAID firmware. time zone Specify the time zone based on Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) followed by a plus (+) or minus (-) sign and the number of hours earlier or later your location is from the Greenwich mean time. For instance, the time zone setting for Japan is GMT +9 and the time zone for New York is GMT -4 or -5 depending on daylight savings. If you do not specify the time zone, it is automatically set to the time zone set in the RAID firmware. The following example sets the controller time and date to September 22, 2004
