DescriptionThis document describes the procedure to replace the battery inside a Sun StorEdge[TM] 33x0(3310/3320) SCSI array.
Steps to FollowSun StorEdge[TM] 33x0: Battery Replacement Procedure
Note
: This is a sub-set of <Document: 1011431.1> : "Troubleshooting the Sun StorEdge[TM] 33x0/351x StorEdge Arrays." The steps below will help verify and resolve problems isolated to a battery.
IF THE ARRAY IS CONFIGURED WITH ONE RAID CONTROLLER FOLLOW THESE STEPS
Note: For a single controller configuration, all I/O must be stopped before beginning the replacement procedure.
- Verify with customer that all I/O to this RAID Array has been stopped.
- Power off both PCU's on the RAID array.
- Remove all serial and ethernet cables from the RAID controller.
- Remove the RAID controller.
- Replace the battery according to the instructions printed on top of the RAID controller.
- Re-install the RAID controller.
- Re-install all serial and ethernet cables to the RAID controller.
- Power on both PCUs on the RAID array.
IF THE ARRAY IS CONFIGURED WITH TWO RAID CONTROLLERS FOLLOW THESE STEPS
- Determine the status of each RAID controller before beginning:
- If a RAID controller's status LED is solid amber, it is offline.
- If a RAID controller's status LED is blinking green, it is the PRIMARY controller and it is online.
- If a RAID controller's status LED is solid green, it is the SECONDARY controller and it is online.
- If both RAID controller's status LEDs are solid green for more than 2 minutes both controllers are offline.
- If one RAID controller's status LED is solid amber and the other's status LED is off then both RAID controllers are offline.
- Assuming both array controllers are in normal status. Connect to the array console via the serial interface (tip -38400 /dev/ttya or ttyb) or telnet.
Note if using serial interface you may need to do a CTRL-L to refresh screen.
- Fail the TARGET RAID CONTROLLER:
- From the Main Menu, select View and Edit Peripheral Devices->Set Peripheral Device Entry->Redundant Controller-Primary.
- Select either Force Primary Controller Failure or Force Secondary Controller Failure; which ever is appropriate.
- Verify the controller status LED on the TARGET RAID CONTROLLER is solid amber, and the other controller is acting like the primary(LED is blinking green).
- Remove all serial and ethernet cables from the TARGET RAID CONTROLLER. If necessary, connect the serial cable to the remaining RAID controller.
- Remove the TARGET RAID CONTROLLER.
- Replace the battery according to the instructions printed on top of the RAID controller.
- Re-install the TARGET RAID CONTROLLER.
- Re-install all serial and ethernet cables to the TARGET RAID CONTROLLER.
- Repeat steps 3-9 to replace battery in the other controller.
- If no problems found during the course of this document please refer back to <Document: 1011431.1> : "Troubleshooting the Sun StorEdge[TM] 33x0/351x StorEdge Arrays."
