Solution Type Sun Alert Sure Solution 1000703.1 : Loss of Access to 3510 or 3511 FC Storage After Power Cycle of Host Using 1 Gb PCI Dual FC Host Adapter(+) HBA
PreviouslyPublishedAs 200921 Product Sun StorageTek 3510 FC Array Sun StorageTek 3511 SATA Array Bug Id <SUNBUG: 6256052> Date of Resolved Release 29-JUN-2005 Impact After a power cycle on a host that has a Sun StorEdge 1 Gb PCI Dual FC Host Adapter(+) HBA installed, the host no longer has access to the array. Contributing Factors This issue can occur on the following platforms:
Symptoms After a power cycle on the host, the storage presented by the 3510 or 3511 array will not be available to the host. This issue can be seen in the "probe-scsi-all" after the power cycle: Sun Ultra 60 UPA/PCI (2 X UltraSPARC-II 296MHz), No Keyboard OpenBoot 3.31, 768 MB memory installed, Serial #10149614. Ethernet address 8:0:20:9a:de:ee, Host ID: 809adeee. ok> probe-scsi-all Workaround To work around the described issue, set the data rate on the 3510 or 3511 (on the host connected channel) from AUTO to 1G. This parameter can be set in the firmware application as follows:
Resolution Please see the "Relief/Workaround" section above for the final resolution. Previously Published As 101758 Internal Comments The SE3510/3511 contain a Programmable Logic Device (PLD) that controls the port bypass circuits (PBC) on all ports. The PLD also considers auto-negotiation by employing a method that attempts to determine the source transfer rate, 1Gb or 2Gb. The method does not operate correctly in all configurations when attempting to source a 1Gb transfer rate. PCI Dual FC Host Bus Adapter(+)=Crystal + Card.
