Symptoms

Cannot enable NDMP support

Get pop up error message when NDMP is selected:
"Message: NDMP option can be enabled only if the hosted backup option is enabled."

Hosted backup is not listed under options

Changes

Cause

NDMP is a licensed option of VTL and must be purchased before feature is enable.
Hosted Backup option is also required to enable NDMP.

Solution

Contact local Oracle Sales Representative to purchase option. If option was purchased and not enabled, contact local Sales Representative and have them request the license key to be regenerated (Oracle License Codes). Purchase Order or Sales Order required.

Additional Information:
Pure Hosted Backup (e.g., Hosted Backup Client on VTL server without NDMP) is not supported on the Sun VTL's. The Hosted Backup option has to be enabled in order to enable NDMP, but the actual "Hosted" part on the solution was never supported. The primary reason is the high negative performance hit that impacted normal VTL operations.

It is also highly recommended that Professional Services be engaged to configure NDMP.
