Symptoms
VTL is not allowing all available space to be used
Not all usable space available

It's believed that 160TB storage should be available on a VTL with 170TB raw . Customer sees ~120TB.

Resolution
Actual usable space is approx. 25-30% less than the available raw storage

This is expected.  For example, with 170TB raw and 160TB usable disk array storage,  VTL only shows 120TB.  R5 parity, hot spares, and the fact that disk manufacturers round up on disk size to 500GB reduces available storage by 30%.  Engineering provided the  30% estimate and it is very close to what the customer sees.
