Symptoms
On a Sun Fire[TM] Serengeti Server, the following error could occur when powering on an UltraSparc (US) IV+ System Board:

sc0:SC> poweron sb2
Nov 21 10:56:37 sc0 Platform.SC: JTAG part 0x91a0: Substituting version 0x3 for version 0x4
Nov 21 10:56:38sc0 Platform.SC: RegisterDB part 0x91a0: Substituting version 0x3 for version 0x4

Resolution
The message indicates that the current version of System Controller Application (ScApp) firmware does not recognize a newer hardware revision of USIV+ CPUs installed on the board being powered on. It shows that ScApp treats the CPUs as a revision it does recognize instead.
Functionality is unaffected by the notification and action so the message can be completely ignored. However, the "resolution" is to install ScApp 5.19.4 or higher, which is programmed to recognize the newer revision automatically.

Relief/Workaround
Ignore the message. It is harmless.

Internal Comments
Several different revisions of USIV+ (Panther) CPUs are used on 1.5GHz Boards. Panther 2.1.1 was first used at GA and Panther 2.2 was later. Prior to 5.19.4 a SB with Panther 2.2 CPUs will error when powering on because ScApp is not aware of the module type. That error is harmless, and can be ignored as explained above.

Comment: Ken and I worked the document over a bit to make it available to a contract audience and hopefully allow it to prevent cases from being opened against this "non-issue" issue. Please do the KE review on this and publish.

Thanks,

We also should probably sit on this until Panther 2.2 comes out.
