Symptoms
Customer reports that after upgrading from OS 4.12 to 4.20 checkpoints in a given volume are still limited to 16 even though a new feature of 4.20 states that support has been increased from 16 to 256.



Resolution
Support has indeed been increased from 16 to 256 but it is not automatic and will not be available after the upgrade until additional steps are taken.

The 256 checkpoint total can be achieved for existing volumes that had checkpoints enabled prior to the upgrade only after checkpoints are disabled then re-enabled.

Volumes did did not already have checkpoints enabled will start with 256 possible checkpoints when checkpoints are enabled for the first time.

Please note however that upon disabling checkpoints on a given volume, all existing checkpoints are removed. The number of total checkpoints includes both manual as well as scheduled checkpoints.
