Symptoms

Data Corruption happened after an HDS LUN which was currently mounted on a host was assigned as an S-VOL in TrueCopy configuration. The Storage Navigator GUI interface was used for the TrueCopy configuration.

Resolution

Before assigning HDS LUNs or volumes as S-VOLs in a TrueCopy configuration, always make sure that these LUNs or volumes are:

offline from all hosts, and
the data which these volumes contain are no longer needed

Storage Navigator and likewise the CCI RAID Manager does not check the current status of a LUN, before using it as an S-VOL in TrueCopy configuration. The TrueCopy configuration tools (Storage Navigator or CCI Raid Manager) will use the assigned LUNs, even if these LUNs are currently mounted on a host.

It is very important that the user has to know exactly what is happening with a LUN or set of LUNs before configuring them for TrueCopy operations.
