Symptoms

{SYMPTOM}

During a volume mapping to a host or host group, the management interface reports:

Cannot create or change a volume-to-LUN mapping because either you have not enabled the Storage Domains feature or the storage array has reached its maximum number of allowable domains. Storage Domains is a Licensable Feature that must be specifically enabled through the user interface. If you have not previously obtained a Feature Key File for Storage Domains, contact your storage supplier

Resolution

Sun Storage[TM] 2500 and 6000 RAID Arrays: Cannot Create or Change a Volume Mapping

As stated in the error, there are two reasons why the mapping operation could not
complete:

Domain License Feature Not Enabled or Installed

Check either the License Tab for your array in the Web Interface,
or run:

sscs list -a list license StorageDomain

The Details page of the specific license, or the output of the above
sscs command should show you something similar to the following:

myhost# ./sscs list -a my_array license StorageDomain
Array: Croakster
WWN: 60:0A:0B:80:00:17:0E:1C:00:00:00:00:41:B2:42:60
Serial Number: SN 0440AWF007
Feature Enable Identifier: 3238 3233 3000 3238 3132 3100 4173 7918
License: StorageDomain
Description: Enables the storage domains feature.
Status: Disabled
Quantity Licensed: 0
Quantity Used: 0
Licensed Items:

If the Status is Disabled, you will need to enable the license
by adding the Storage Domain license provided to you by your Hardware Vendor.
If you do not know what the Key Digest and Version are for your license,
please contact the Sun Licensing center for help regarding this license.

The Sun Licensing Center can be reached at the following URL:

http://www.oracle.com/us/support/licensecodes/sun/index.html

At this site, select Sun Storage 2500/6000 as the License Code and then fill in the required fields.

Maximum Number of Domains Exceeded

Similar to the above output, the licensing information for Storage Domains is
listed in the details page and output of sscs(1M), similar to the following:

myhost# ./sscs list -a myarray license StorageDomain
Array: Croakster
WWN: 60:0A:0B:80:00:17:0E:1C:00:00:00:00:41:B2:42:60
Serial Number: SN 0440AWF007
Feature Enable Identifier: 3238 3233 3000 3238 3132 3100 4173 7918
License: StorageDomain
Description: Enables the storage domains feature.
Status: Enabled
Quantity Licensed: 8
Quantity Used: 8
Licensed Items:
Host: host_4
Host: host_1
Host: host_2
Host: host_5
Host: host_6
Host: host_7
Host: host_8
Host: host_9

The array will not let you create any more Storage Domains. To create more
storage domains, you will need to purchase a Storage Domain license upgrade.
You can upgrade the number of Storage Domains based on the array type.

For more information about Storage Domains and how they relate to Hosts and Host
Group volume mapping, please see :

Capabilities of Mapping a Volume to a Host or Host Group for Sun Storage[TM] 2500 and 6000 RAID Arrays.
