Solution Type Problem Resolution Sure Solution 1012650.1 : UltraSPARC[R] III system boards falsely unsupported when power supply types are mixed in a Sun Fire[TM] 3800 chassis.
PreviouslyPublishedAs 217400 Symptoms Firmware version 5.20.0 and 5.20.1 are preventing system boards from powering on when A145 & A145E power supplies are mixed in a Sun Fire[TM] 3800 chassis. Resolution The new code introduced in firmware levels 5.20.0 and 5.20.1 was intended to prevent 1800MHz USIV+ boards from powering on if there was an illegal mix of power supplies in the Sun Fire system chassis. However, the code was too general and did not take into account that the SF3800, which does not support USIV+ boards, could legally mix the A145 and A145E power supplies in the same chassis. Currently, firmware versions 5.20.0 and 5.20.1 will prevent USIII boards (such as 750MHz) from powering on and will issue the following error... v4u-3800c-sc0:SC> poweron sb2 Jun 21 01:03:47 3800c-sc0 Platform.SC: WARNING: /N0/SB2 is not supported in this chassis because the power supply types are mixed. v4u-3800c-sc0:SC> showboards [...] PS0 On A145E Power Supply - OK <<---- Different PSU PS1 On A145 Power Supply - OK PS2 On A145 Power Supply - OK [...] The firmware will be amended to exclude the SF3800 from the mixed power supply rule and a fix included in version 5.20.2 which will be available on 25th August 2006. Relief/Workaround If an upgrade to 5.20.2 is not possible, ensure that all power supply types are the same by replacing as few power supplies as possible (only one power supply need ever be replaced). Additional Information Note: You are only likely to find a legal mix of the A145 and A145E power supplies in the EMEA GEO. Other GEOs will have one type or the other but not both. If you discover a mix of A145 and A145E power supplies outside the EMEA GEO, log an escalation with PTS to obtain a resolution.
