Solution Type Problem Resolution Sure Solution 1012603.1 : Sun StorEdge[TM] 3000 series array: controller panic with message "WARNING: BBU cached data error!"
PreviouslyPublishedAs 217345 Symptoms When an incorrect procedure is used on an array(like upgrading from 3.xx to 4.xx on a live system), it may lead the controller to panic continously, with the following error: "WARNING: BBU cached data error". This error is only visible by the serial connection. Resolution This error indicates that the CPU of the controller cannot use the cached data, because the structure of the cache from 3.xx Firmware(FW) cannot be used with the new FW release. As mentioned in the README file of the patch, it is required to stop all I/Os. To recover, disconnect the Battery of the impacted controller, and wait a couple of minutes, so that the cache memory loses the stored data. The controller will boot correctly, after the battery reconnection. Unfortunately, since the cached data are lost, you may have to restore the data Product Sun StorageTek 3511 SATA Array Sun StorageTek 3510 FC Array Sun StorageTek 3310/3510/3511 Firmware 4.11 Upgrade Sun StorageTek 3310 SCSI Array Internal Comments For internal Sun use only. -PDE confirm that it is not normally linked to a firmware upgrade or new cached data error, controller, panic Previously Published As 82865 Change History Date: 2005-10-27 User Name: 18392 Action: Approved Comment: Added product name, product noun, trademarking, did some re-wording and formatting for clarity and readability.
