Symptoms
Unable to update the OBP firmware from 4.6.4 to 4.6.8 on Sun Fire[TM] V480.

When the Flash PROM Update utility is run, it is reported that the machine is already at the latest version of POST :

Firmware Release(s) Firmware Release(s)

Currently Existing in the System Available for Installation / Install

---------------------------------- -------------------------------------------

OBP 4.6.4 2002/05/31 05:00 OBP 4.6.8 2002/09/04 13:45 YES

POST 4.6.2 2002/05/21 10:27 POST 4.6.2 2002/05/21 10:27 NO <<<<<<<<<<<<< (user enters "NO")

If only the OBP firmware (and not the POST) is selected for update, the following will be returned:

Programming was successful.

Resolution
Saying "YES" to update the POST as well as OBP fixes the problem of RAM-Copy CRC failure.

(Even if the latest POST is already installed)

Both packages MUST be installed together.

Change History
Article needs a keywords statement (for searchability) and the Product listed as
"solaris" is too broad. It needs to have all specific versions of Solaris that
are applicable to this article i.e. Solaris 9 Operating System, Solaris 8
Operating System...etc.
In order to lookup the proper nomenclature for these versions, you can use the
Swordfish taxonomy tool.
http://krep.emea.sun.com/stats/swordfish/
Search "Solaris" then click the plus next to all applicable versions. Then click
the result button and you will get a pop up of all the products listed together
in proper format.
