Solution Type Problem Resolution Sure Solution 1010661.1 : Sun[TM] XVR-500/1000: Driver install script will fail on Solaris[TM] 8 with kernel patch 108528-14 or later.
PreviouslyPublishedAs 214716 Symptoms On SUNW,Sun-Blade-1000 type systems (e.g. Sun Blade[TM] 1000 and Sun Blade[TM] 2000) running Solaris 8 with kernel patch 108528-14 or newer, the install script of the XVR-500 or XVR-1000 Driver CD will fail when it tries to install a required patch. The list of required patches is given below: 108576-52 X (only if the driver packages are already installed) 111310-01 X 112334-02 X Y (obsoleted by 108528-14) 111293-01 X (obsoleted by 108528-21) 108528-13 X Y 110460-07 X (obsoleted by 108528-29) 109888-16 X Y (obsoleted by 108528-29) 109543-19 X (only for OpenGL 1.2.1 on 32bit or 64bit platform) 109544-19 X (only for OpenGL 1.2.1 on 64bit platform) 111993-02 X (only for OpenGL 1.2.2 on 32bit or 64bit platform) 111994-02 X (only for OpenGL 1.2.2 on 64bit platform) 112628-02 X (only for OpenGL 1.2.3 on 32bit or 64bit platform) 112629-02 X (only for OpenGL 1.2.3 on 64bit platform) Patches marked by 'X' are required for the XVR-500 driver whereas those marked by 'Y' are required for the XVR-1000 driver. Since 108528-14 includes 112334, patchadd for 112334-02 will fail if the system has 108528-14 or newer. Subsequently, the install script will terminate with an error similar to the one below: *** Installing Sun XVR-500 Graphics Accelerator support for Solaris 8... *** Installing patch 112334-02 for Solaris 8... *** Failed to install patch 112334-02 for Solaris 8! As a result, the optional OpenGL packages that the user selected and their patches, if any, will also not be installed. Please note that the XVR-1000 driver includes only packages for OpenGL 1.2.3 and no OpenGL patches. Resolution Even if the install script failed in the above circumstances, the failure can be ignored. This is because the driver packages for XVR-500 (i.e. SUNWifb.u, SUNWifbcf, SUNWifbr, SUNWifbw, and possibly even SUNWifbx.u) or XVR-1000 (i.e. SUNWgfb.u, SUNWgfbcf, SUNWgfbr, SUNWgfbw, SUNWvid, and possibly even SUNWgfbx.u) were either already installed on the system or were installed by the install script prior to the patchadd failure. So, depending on the version of 108528, users may afterward apply those patches that were not applied. For instance, systems with 108528-29 or newer require no further patching. However, if users require OpenGL support, they then must manually install the OpenGL packages and patches thereof from the XVR-500 or XVR-1000 Driver CD or from: http://wwws.sun.com/software/graphics/opengl/index.html Product Sun XVR-500 Graphics Accelerator Sun XVR-1000 Graphics Accelerator Sun Blade 1500 Workstation Sun Blade 1000 Workstation Sun Blade 2000 Workstation Internal Comments For internal Sun use only. This is not a bug in the install scripts, because these drivers were released prior to 108528-14. 108528, XVR-500, IFB, XVR-1000, GFB, OpenGL, Install Script Previously Published As 74583 Change History Date: 2006-01-23 User Name: 25440 Action: Approved Comment: SSH AUDIT Version: 1 Date: 2006-01-23 User Name: 25440 Action: Update Started Comment: SSH AUDIT Version: 0 Attachments This solution has no attachment |
