Symptoms

The Sun StorEdge[TM] 5210/5310/5320 NAS Web Admin GUI is missing the "Manage RAID" option in the "RAID" section of the GUI.

This is the option that allows you to add or remove luns, and add or remove hotspares, on the backend RAID storage.

Resolution

If a Gateway license is activated on the NAS, then the "Manage RAID" option is removed from the GUI.

If the NAS (SE5310 or SE5320) really is a Gateway system, then the attached RAID storage is not managed by the NAS head. To add or remove luns, or to add or remove hotspares, the separate management utility for the RAID storage should be used. This will vary depending on exactly what type of RAID storage is attached to the Gateway system.

If the NAS (SE5210/SE5310 or SE5320) is not a Gateway system, then the Gateway license should be removed, and the NAS rebooted. After doing this, the "Manage RAID" option will become available again.

To check and manage licenses in the GUI, under "System Operations" select "Activate Options"

To check and manage licenses in the telnet menu interface, use option "4" - "Licenses"

To check and manage licenses in the telnet admin CLI interface, use the "lm" command :

> lm
License Manager
usage: lm report [-d][-a|-x|-m <module>]
import  [pathname]
add <module> <origination date> <expiration date> <license>
remove [module [license]]
check [module]
modules

Additional Information

This problem may occur because non-Gateway systems have a built in Temporary (30 day) Gateway license that can be activated on them.

Bug ID: 6285316

Synopsis: 5310G web GUI errors when selecting Manage RAID menu option

Evaluation:

we can just remove the Manage Raid option for the gateway systems since it will not show any information regarding the configuration of the Raid instead of giving out some error messages.
