PreviouslyPublishedAs 211878 Symptoms When a disk is about to fail in a raid configuration A3000, A35000, or A1000 You will see the following in the var/adm/messages and Raid Manager log Dec 20 08:09:54 dean raid: AEN event Host=dean Ctrl=1T92800367 Dev=c3t5d0 Dec 20 08:09:54 dean raid: ASC=5D ASCQ=80 FRU=59 LUN=00 LUN Stat=00 ASC=5D ASCQ=80 If you have not installed patch 108834-02 or higher for Raid Manager 6.22, your /usr/lib/osa/raidcode.txt file will not have the appropriate information about the condition, and what is to be done to fix it. Resolution The following is from the /usr/lib/osa/raidcode.txt file from Raid Manager 6.22 patched with 108834-02 or higher. ASC ASCQ Sense Key 5D 80 6 Drive Reported PFA (Predicted Failure Analysis) Condition Policies for drive-predicted failure notifications vary depending on such factors as performance and availability requirements, RAID level, and use of Hot Spare drives. If you intend to replace the drive in advance of failure, you MUST first fix any components that have a Failed status. Failure to do so may result in data loss. If the drive is contained in a RAID 0 LUN, back up your data BEFORE failing the drive. Fail the indicated drive using Options>>Manual Recovery>>Drives>>Fail in the Recovery Application (its fault LED will turn ON). Then replace it with a spare drive of adequate capacity. For RAID 0 LUNs, you must re-format the affected LUNs and restore data from your back up. For all other RAID levels, the data on the drive will be reconstructed upon replacing the drive.
