Symptoms
Commands on SSP fail in such a manner:

ssp1:10k-d0% domain_status

+ exec scotty -f /opt/SUNWssp/bin/domain_status --

Tcl_AppInit failed: invalid command name "gettext"

ssp1:10k-d0% fan

+ exec scotty -f /opt/SUNWssp/bin/fan --

Tcl_AppInit failed: invalid command name "gettext"

ssp1:10k-d0% power

Segmentation Fault (core dumped)

Resolution
1). trussing domain_status, for example, might reveal something like this:

Verify existance and permissions of Ultra-Enterprise-10000.mib (-r--r--r-- owner: ssp group: staff) and, if OK, verify the permissions of each of the individual /etc/opt/SUNWssp/snmp subdirectories. Example (and working) permissions and ownership follow:

/etc drwxr-xr-x root/sys

/etc/opt drwxr-xr-x root/sys

/etc/opt/SUNWssp drwxr-xr-x root/sys

/etc/opt/SUNWssp/snmp drwxr-xr-x ssp/staff

Verify the SSP can ping the primary control board without issues.

Internal Comments
In my case /etc/opt was 0500 (r-x------) and we needed to chmod it to get the SSP commands to work properly:

# chmod 755 /etc/opt
