Solution  1006429.1 :   Sun Blade[TM] 150 workstation: serial console may not work properly after power-cycle, reset-all or OBP Update

Symptoms
Sometimes, when a Sun Blade[TM] 150 workstation serial port, is used as its system console, text will be displayed, but the operator cannot type anything in. Replacing the system board or upgrading the system FW(firmware) can help until the next power cycle or reset, at which point the problem returns.


Resolution
This problem has been linked to a bug.

The bug linked to the problem is 5071186 and is fixed in patch 119235-01 for the Sun Blade[TM] 100 and 150 workstations.

Relief/Workaround

The serial console will work properly with SW(software) flow control, or no flow control at all.

There may be other reasons why the serial console does not work.

This problem has now been linked to bug 5071186 and is fixed in patch

119235-01 for the Sun Blade 100 and 150 workstations.

The work-around was determined by simply trying it. There seems to be a large

number of Sun Fire[TM] V150 system boards that are being replaced because of

problems with the serial port. It is our opinion that this may be a contributing

factor.

This Problem Resolution was written with the assistance of Denis Geoffrion who isolated the

problem and found the work-around.
